Where to Stay Between Elmsford and New Castle
Updated: Mar 3, 2021
Although just 30 miles from the start of the trail, we highly recommend considering staying in Elmsford or just north of it. As you get further north away from New York City, there are less hotels available.

The next hotel on the trail is another 15 miles north and is not highly rated. About 25 miles from Elmsford, there are hotels in Brewster, but not on the trail. While it may be less than a full day of biking, make sure to plan ahead if you plan on passing by Elmsford and the surrounding area.
Top Choice: La Quinta Suites
Runner-Up: Comfort Inn and Suites
Just north of Elmsford is La Quinta Suites, which is actually about a half of a mile north of the main part of Elmsford and 1 mile off the trail. http://www.booking.com/Share-z4NUvn Booking.com rates this hotel an 8.2 out of 10, and at about $85 a night is our clear winner for the area. There's free wifi, an indoor pool, and has a free continental breakfast. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company is right nearby, and is a must-stop for anyone looking for a great meal and an even better beer. Check out our page on all breweries on the Empire State Trail, and make sure to download your EST Brewery passport!
Lookout for a UPS truck trailer parking lot, and exit the trail at Warehouse Lane. When you hit the 9A, which will have a Carvel on the corner, take a left. Don't forget to treat yourself to an ice cream - you deserve it!
Returning to the trail, you can head north from the hotel and turn left onto the 303 to rejoin the trail there. Just don't tell anyone that you skipped a little bit of the trail.
About 2.5 miles north of Elmsford is Comfort Inn and Suites in Hawthorne, New York. Comfort Inn and Suites is a highly rated hotel, http://www.booking.com/Share-quXCwd scoring an 8.6 on Booking.com. It also has free breakfast and an indoor pool. Prices are a little more expensive, at about $125 a night, though make sure to check for updated prices.
While it's right next to the trail, Google Maps estimates road access will be about a 2 mile trip from the trail's intersection with the 303. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a shorter way to cut across, as the Saw Mill Parkway runs between the hotel and the trail. While it's rated higher than La Quinta on Booking.com, we have it as our runner-up because of the access from the trail distance.
